Tim Powell

In 1981 I graduated from Southampton University with an Honours Degree in Law (2:1). I qualified as a solicitor in October 1984, and then worked for a law firm in the West End of London. I spent several years as a civil litigation specialist working mainly in the High Court. I then transferred to the firm’s magistrates’ department and gained invaluable advocacy experience in criminal and liquor licensing law. During this time I represented clients at court on a daily basis.
Between 1990 and 1997 I job-shared with my partner Deirdre, at Howard Thomas and Petrou, a well regarded firm in Norwood, covering all areas of court work, with an emphasis on landlord and tenant law and personal injury law.
I continue to practise advocacy, representing clients before the local county courts. I am a member of the local duty solicitor scheme representing tenants and mortgage borrowers who are facing possession proceedings.
I am the author of Mortgage Possession Proceedings, a Law Society publication.
I am a course presenter for APIL, Lime Legal and BPP. Recent training courses I have given include housing law for personal injury lawyers, mortgage law, the tenancy deposit scheme and best practice for duty solicitors.
I am a part-time Lawyer Chairman of the Leasehold Valuation Tribunal, through which I have gained specialist knowledge of all aspects of leasehold law.
I am a trained mediator and have resolved numerous disputes through mediation over the past few years.
I am a Fellow of the Association of Personal Injury Lawyers, one of only a handful of solicitors in South London who have achieved this accreditation.
I am a keen cyclist and I love world music and travel.
Je parle francais. Ich spreche Deutsch.
