Housing Law

We can advise tenants on all aspects of housing law. This includes: disrepair problems, whether you have a right to stay in your home, whether your deposit should have been protected, or whether you can pass your tenancy on to a relative or partner. In a strong case involving disrepair or harrassment, we may be able to act for you on a no win no fee basis.

We can advise leaseholders on any problem that they are having with their freeholder, whether it is a service charge dispute, disrepair problems, a need to extend the lease or buy the freehold. No win no fee may be available where the landlord has failed to carry out repairs.

We can advise mortgage borrowers who may have a case against their lender. Please note however that we do have to charge for such advice so it is usually best for borrowers who are in arrears to consult a free service such as an advice centre.

Deirdre Forster is a co- author of Repairs: tenants' rights which has long been recognised as an essential text for all housing advisers and lawyers dealing with disrepair in rented housing accommodation.
