Deirdre Forster

My work covers all aspects of housing law from a tenant or leaseholder’s point of view and accident claims for victims of negligence. I have conducted some very high value claims including fatal accidents.

I have been a member of the Housing Law Practitioners’ Association since it was founded and I regularly lecture for them.

Deirdre_ForsterI trained with DMH, a large corporate firm in Brighton and qualified in June 1980. I worked in their Shoreham branch office for two years as an assistant solicitor handling an enormously varied caseload including conveyancing, matrimonial law, crime and civil litigation. I then moved to South London in 1982 to work for a local law centre. There I worked in the housing, personal injury and employment teams and I was a regular presenter on a local radio legal helpline.

Between 1990 and 1997 I worked for a South London high street firm, specialising in housing disrepair, homelessness and personal injury work. I acted mostly for legally aided clients and carried out my own county court and magistrates’ court advocacy. In 1997 I set up Powell Forster with my partner Tim Powell.

I am the author of a number of published articles on housing law. I love teaching and I am often asked to train lawyers and other housing advisers. I have also taught on the Legal Practice course for trainee solicitors. I am currently presenting disrepair law courses to solicitors on behalf of the Legal Action Group and have co-written the book "Repairs: tenants' rights"(4th Edition), published by Legal Action Group.
